In The Gathering of the Calendulas, repetition becomes abundance.
The flowers crowd into the composition, overlapping and turning as though drawn towards one another. Their reds and oranges burn against the deep violet ground, while fragments of green and ochre emerge between them, suggesting leaves almost consumed by the density of the gathering.
There is no single centre. The eye moves continuously across the painting, from one calendula to the next, following a rhythm created through repetition, rotation and interruption. Some flowers face forward; others turn away or disappear beyond the edges, suggesting a gathering that extends outside the limits of the canvas.
Each remains distinct, yet together they become something larger, a collective held not by uniformity, but by proximity, colour and movement.
